The 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) showcased cutting-edge concepts poised to shape the future battlefield, with the spotlight falling on the low-recoil 30×113 mm VENOM LR medium-caliber cannon developed through the collaboration of CANiK, AEI Systems, and UNIROBOTICS under SYS Group.
Designed for integration across land, naval, and even airborne platforms, the VENOM LR emerged as one of the fair’s key highlights. Demonstrated in multiple Remote-Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) configurations, the system underscored its adaptability, firepower, and ability to redefine medium-caliber armament solutions for modern militaries.
Bridging the Firepower Gap
The VENOM LR’s low-recoil design allows seamless mounting on even light platforms, overcoming traditional integration challenges. Positioned between 12.7 mm heavy machine guns and larger-caliber automatic cannons, it offers a balanced, powerful alternative with several competitive advantages:
- Adjustable high rate of fire
- Increased accuracy through an extended barrel
- Minimal energy consumption thanks to gas operation
- Modular architecture for versatile integration
By minimizing the high recoil typically associated with 30×173 mm calibers, the VENOM LR delivers heavy firepower on small, agile platforms while reducing operational constraints and integration costs.
Showcasing Multi-Platform Integration at IDEF 2025
The system’s versatility was demonstrated across a range of operational platforms at IDEF 2025, including:
- Nurol Makina NMS YÖRÜK armored combat vehicle with TRAKON 30 RCWS – delivering high mobility and firepower for land operations.
- FNSS PARS 4×4 Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicle with SANCAK RCWS and the ZAHA Amphibious Armored Assault Vehicle with ÇAKA Anti-Tank RCWS – addressing modern battlefield threats with precision engagement.
- Naval Variant of TRAKON 30 RCWS integrated with a domestically produced Armed Unmanned Surface Vehicle (AUSV) – demonstrating autonomous maritime combat capability.
- Tactical Unmanned Ground Vehicle with TRAKON 30 RCWS – showcasing precise targeting in unmanned land operations.
- ROKETSAN BURÇ Turret – highlighting both manned and unmanned applications of the VENOM LR.
These integrations underline the system’s potential to become a standard armament choice across land, sea, and air platforms in the near future.
A Strategic Advantage for SYS Group
With its low-recoil engineering, platform independence, and freedom from export restrictions, the VENOM LR offers a distinct commercial and strategic advantage in the global defense market. The system enhances intelligence, surveillance, and rapid-response capabilities while offering lower maintenance and lifecycle costs compared to alternatives.
SYS Group CEO Cahit Utku Aral commented:
“With the acquisition of AEI Systems, a company with nearly 60 years of heritage, and our investment in the low-recoil 30×113 mm VENOM LR, we have positioned Türkiye among the only three manufacturers of such systems worldwide. We are providing the right product at the right time to meet the needs of modern armies in friendly and allied nations. With the VENOM LR, we are setting a new standard for land, sea, and even air platforms. This innovation reflects the economic and technological value that SYS Group brings to the defense sector through engineering excellence. As demonstrated at IDEF 2025, we are significantly increasing the capabilities and deterrence of Turkish defense platforms, and we will continue working with platform manufacturers both domestically and for export-focused projects to contribute to the growth of Türkiye’s defense industry.”
With its adaptable design and operational flexibility, the VENOM LR is positioned to become a key medium-caliber solution for next-generation defense platforms worldwide.
