Turkey’s Foreign Minister Fidan Rejects Trump’s Proposal on Palestinian Displacement. In an interview with Palestine TV, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statements regarding the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Fidan stated, “The forced displacement of Palestinians is unacceptable. We do not believe such proposals should be taken seriously.”
During the interview, Fidan addressed various issues, including the ceasefire process in Gaza, Trump’s controversial remarks, Israel’s policies in the region, and the international community’s response. When asked about Trump’s comments on displacing Palestinians from Gaza and the global reaction, Fidan reiterated, “The forced displacement of Palestinians is unacceptable. We do not believe such proposals deserve serious consideration.”
“No Political Project is More Universally Supported Than the Two-State Solution”
Fidan emphasized the international consensus on the two-state solution, stating, “In 1948, Palestinians were displaced once. Since then, the international community has advocated for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state. This solution envisions Palestine and Israel coexisting side by side. The Islamic world, Turkey, the Arab world, and the vast majority of the international community, as evidenced by recent UN votes, support this vision.”
He added, “No other political project in the world enjoys as much support as the two-state solution. However, despite this overwhelming consensus, the implementation of this solution remains elusive. The international community, regional countries, the Arab world, the Islamic world, the European Union, Africa, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region must continue to oppose any actions that undermine this solution through diplomatic means.”
“Only a Firm Stand by the International Community Can Restrain Netanyahu”
Regarding the prospects of the ceasefire in Gaza, Fidan expressed hope that the ongoing genocide since October 7 would end and that the ceasefire would hold, allowing Gazans to return to their homes and resume normal lives. He stated, “Unfortunately, the current scenario remains valid. Our primary goal is to stop the genocide and ensure the continuation of the ceasefire. The international community is doing everything in its power to achieve this.”
Fidan also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying, “Netanyahu’s intentions are clear, and he does not shy away from showing them. After the hostages are freed, the only thing that can restrain him is a firm and realistic stance by the international community, which must isolate Israel completely. The U.S., as one of the guarantors of the agreement alongside Egypt and Qatar, must pressure Israel to adhere to the terms of the agreement. If Netanyahu, with U.S. support, starts another war, America’s already diminished credibility will plummet further, perpetuating the crisis in the international system.”
“We Have Projects for a Two-State Solution”
When asked about Turkey’s diplomatic efforts to hold Israel accountable, Fidan revealed that Turkey is actively engaged in diplomatic initiatives. He mentioned the Contact Group formed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, consisting of seven countries, four Arab and three non-Arab. Fidan stated, “Our consultations and efforts are ongoing. The ceasefire has brought a new phase, and we must now focus on advancing the two-state solution. We, as regional countries, understand better than anyone how the Palestinian issue is a source of instability and conflict in our region. A lasting solution can only be achieved through a two-state solution that ensures security for both Israelis and Palestinians. We are ready to provide all necessary support to the international community and regional countries to achieve this.”
“What Happened in Gaza is a Result of Genocide”
Fidan described the events in Gaza as a genocide, stating, “International support and awareness for the Palestinian cause have reached unprecedented levels in modern times. Unfortunately, this has come as a result of genocide. The inability of the international community to prevent this tragedy has exposed the flaws and weaknesses of the international system.”
He continued, “The international community and the international system must take steps to address their weaknesses and failures. The Palestinian issue presents an opportunity for this. As Turkey, we are calling on the international community to take the necessary steps for a just and lasting solution. A two-state solution based on the 1967 borders will not only bring relief to the region but also restore the Palestinians’ right to establish a dignified state and reduce the risk of global conflict. Anyone opposing such a solution has a sinister mindset and must be carefully scrutinized.”
“The U.S. and Western Countries’ Unconditional Support for Israel”
Fidan criticized the unconditional support of the U.S. and some Western countries for Israel, stating, “The issue has shifted from being a matter of justice, rights, and law to one of power dynamics. The stronger party, regardless of right or wrong, is shedding blood. This is what we call the ‘law of the jungle.'”
“We Are Working Closely with Islamic Countries to Protect Jerusalem’s Identity”
On the issue of Jerusalem, Fidan emphasized its significance as a symbol of the Palestinian cause. He stated, “Jerusalem is a crucial symbol of the Palestinian issue. Apart from the loss of our Palestinian brothers and sisters, Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque hold great importance for us due to our religious ties. The attempts to Judaize Jerusalem, stripping it of its international, Muslim, and Christian identity, are unacceptable.”
Fidan noted that Turkey is working closely with Jordan and other Islamic countries to protect Jerusalem’s identity. He said, “We support Jordan’s stance on this issue and are engaged in serious efforts with Islamic countries. Unfortunately, Israel, with the support it receives, continues to take provocative steps in Jerusalem.”
“We Will Have New Meetings with the Palestinian Authority in the Coming Days”
When asked about potential high-level meetings between Turkey and Palestine, Fidan referred to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s visit to Turkey in August and his address to the Turkish Parliament. He stated, “Despite internal divisions on many issues, Turkey stands united on the Palestinian cause. The Turkish Parliament’s support for President Abbas was a historic moment. We will have new meetings and gatherings with the Palestinian Authority in the coming days. Our support for the Palestinian administration continues uninterrupted.”
“I Have No Issue Visiting Palestine if Conditions Allow”
Fidan expressed his willingness to visit Palestine, stating, “If conditions allow, I have no issue visiting.” He added, “Without a lasting solution, we will continue to face larger wars. Therefore, we must pair the ceasefire with the two-state solution to prevent future conflicts. We need a political solution to this issue. However, if Israel’s goal is to expand its territory by taking land not only from Palestinians but also from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, then it is clear that they do not want a two-state solution and are merely delaying it.”
“No One Can Speak Out Due to Unconditional U.S. Support”
Fidan concluded by stating, “If a leader is expanding territory without making peace, they will inevitably face the risk of losing and shrinking their own land. History is clear on this. While the Islamic world, the Arab world, and the international community support the two-state solution, and everyone is ready to recognize Israel and cooperate after such a solution, it must be utilized. Unfortunately, the current strategic culture favors expansionism and uses peace negotiations, ceasefire talks, and other issues merely as tools for expansion. They are not sincere in any matter. The people of the region see this, but due to the unconditional support of the U.S., no one can speak out. That is the essence of the issue.”
“The Whole World is United on the Palestinian Issue”
Fidan sent a message of hope to the Palestinian people, saying, “The Palestinian people should remain hopeful. The support of the entire world, not just Arabs and Muslims, but all oppressed peoples and conscientious countries, is with the Palestinian people. Everyone is standing against this injustice and oppression. The whole world is united on the Palestinian issue. This oppression cannot continue. We will see its profound impact on the world.”
