Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has issued a stark warning regarding the ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza, emphasizing that failure to restrain Israel’s aggression and expansionist policies could lead to consequences felt across the globe.

Speaking at the “Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic and Financial Issues, and Artificial Intelligence” session during the 17th BRICS Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Fidan underscored the devastating impact of the Gaza conflict on regional development and international stability.

“The humanitarian catastrophe endured by the Palestinian people lies at the heart of today’s debates on multilateralism,” Fidan stated, highlighting how Israel’s operations have reversed decades of progress in the region. He stressed that the current crisis is not only a regional issue but a direct challenge to the legitimacy of international institutions responsible for safeguarding global peace and security.

Fidan cautioned that unless Israel’s aggressive and expansionist actions are brought under control, the consequences will extend beyond the Middle East and disrupt global stability.

Reaffirming Turkey’s commitment to de-escalation efforts and peaceful solutions, Fidan noted that Ankara stands ready to fully support initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.

Addressing broader global challenges, Fidan pointed to the increased fragility of global supply chains, particularly in energy and critical minerals, due to deepening interdependence brought about by globalization. He emphasized that sustainable development depends on growth, job creation, and fair trade, all of which require a predictable, rules-based international economic system.

Fidan also touched on the rising significance of artificial intelligence, describing its global governance as an urgent priority. “As the world transitions toward multipolarity, we must ensure that AI does not become a new tool of domination,” he warned, calling for robust safeguards to prevent technological misuse.

Turkey, Fidan reiterated, remains committed to strengthening multilateral cooperation and promoting peace, particularly in regions facing protracted conflict and instability.
