Turkish Armed Forces Enhance Stability and Peace in Syria

**The Turkish Armed Forces have long been recognized for their role in fostering stability and peace wherever they operate, and they are not a threat to those who do not pose a threat to them.** During a press briefing held by the Ministry of National Defense on April 10, 2025, officials addressed recent developments in Syria along with the implications of Israel’s airstrikes on Syrian military bases.

Officials stated, “As Turkey, we are committed to bolstering defense capabilities in response to the requests of the new government in Syria. Our efforts primarily focus on combating all terrorist organizations, with ISIS at the forefront.” Plans for establishing training bases in Syria are currently under evaluation, highlighting Turkey’s intent to reinforce territorial integrity, stability, and security while eradicating terrorism.

Clarifying Turkey’s stance on recent Israeli strikes, the ministry stated that the T4 base targeted by Israel is part of operations aligned with existing agreements between the nations and executed in accordance with international law. They emphasized that these actions aim to avoid involving third nations, reiterating that the Turkish Armed Forces are present solely for peacekeeping.

However, Israeli actions, which the Turkish officials described as confrontational, have led to unfounded accusations against Turkey. “Provocative remarks from Israel are attempting to shape a narrative that suggests there is an ongoing tension between our two nations,” they noted, asserting that this approach is merely a tactic to distract from Israel’s own unlawful actions.

In light of these tensions, officials were questioned about any dialogue between Turkey and Israel regarding a ceasefire in Syria. They revealed that a preliminary technical meeting occurred in Azerbaijan to establish a mechanism aimed at preventing further incidents in Syria, demonstrating Turkey’s proactive approach towards peace.

On the Israeli side, Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed a desire to maintain peaceful relations with Turkey. Following a visit to the United States and a joint news conference with President Donald Trump, Netanyahu highlighted, “We discussed the situation in Syria. We do not want Turkey or any other country to utilize Syria as a launchpad for attacks against Israel,” indicating mutual interest in averting conflict.

Netanyahu’s comments reflect an intention to stabilize relations and avoid escalation. The dialogue underscores the importance of cooperation to ensure that Syria does not become a battleground that places both nations at risk.
