Ankara, June 15, 2025 – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on Sunday to address the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran and its potential global and regional ramifications, according to sources from Turkey’s Foreign Ministry.

The discussion focused on the intensifying tensions between Israel and Iran, sparked by Israel’s large-scale attacks on June 13 targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and senior military leadership. The strikes resulted in significant casualties, including Iran’s General Staff Chief, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander, several high-ranking military officials, and nine nuclear scientists. A total of 78 civilians were also reported killed. In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missile strikes on Israel, which claimed 13 lives and injured over 400 people.

During the call, Minister Fidan expressed deep concern over the developments, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only viable path to de-escalate the conflict and resolve disputes, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear activities. He underscored the need for all parties to prioritize dialogue to prevent further violence and instability.

The conflict has drawn widespread international condemnation, with Turkey among the nations denouncing Israel’s actions. The escalating violence has raised fears of broader regional and global consequences, prompting urgent diplomatic efforts to contain the crisis.

As the situation unfolds, Turkey continues to advocate for restraint and diplomatic solutions to mitigate the risks of further escalation in the region.
