**In a significant development for defense collaboration, Turkey and Malaysia have established a partnership that will see the construction of a Multi-Purpose Vessel by DESAN for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).** This vessel will be the largest in the MMEA’s fleet, highlighting the growing military ties between the two nations.
The groundwork for this ambitious project was laid during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Malaysia on February 11, 2025. A mutual letter of intent was signed by Cenk Kaptanoğlu, the Chairman of DESAN, and the Secretary-General of the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs, marking a key milestone in defense cooperation.
DESAN’s Cutting-Edge Vessel Specifications
The Multi-Purpose Vessel will measure 99 meters in length and is expected to be constructed in Turkey within a 24-month timeframe. It will be certified by Turkish Lloyd, ensuring adherence to high standards of safety and performance.
Incorporating advanced technology, the vessel will feature sophisticated weapon systems, enhanced electronic and communication systems, and unmanned aerial vehicles capable of vertical take-off and landing. This project will also see collaboration with prominent Turkish defense companies such as ASELSAN and HAVELSAN.

Cenk Kaptanoğlu expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “The Turkish defense industry has made significant advancements over the last twenty years, proving itself in all areas. During his visit to Malaysia, SSB Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün addressed the DEIK Malaysia-Turkey Business Forum, where he presented the current collaborations in the defense industry along with a vision for future projects. He remarked that a future filled with common goals awaits the two nations.
In addition to his forum participation, Görgün also engaged in B2B meetings, fostering connections between Turkish defense firms and Malaysian officials. This underscores the proactive approach both countries are taking to enhance their defense capabilities.
