President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced significant progress in Turkey-Italy relations following the Fourth Intergovernmental Summit in Italy. “We have completed our visit on the occasion of the Fourth Intergovernmental Summit between Turkey and Italy,” Erdoğan stated. “We have taken important decisions to deepen our cooperation in various fields.”
A key focus of the summit was economic partnership, with a target set to increase bilateral trade from $30 billion to $40 billion. “We set a goal to increase our bilateral trade from $30 billion to $40 billion in our meeting with Prime Minister Meloni,” Erdoğan said. “I believe that we will reach this target in a short time.”
Defense industry cooperation was also highlighted, with Erdoğan mentioning new partnerships and ongoing projects. “We want to further advance our defense industry cooperation, which has been strengthened with concrete projects in recent years, with new partnerships,” he noted. “Our company Baykar, which has recently deepened its cooperation with Italian companies, continued this process with the protocol they signed with Leonardo.”
Additionally, Erdoğan addressed Italy’s proposal for joint ventures in Africa. “Italy has a proposal for us to take joint steps, especially regarding Africa,” he said. “We see no reason not to cooperate. I expressed to Prime Minister Meloni that we welcome this offer.”
