ISTANBUL – Turkey is no longer a country that passively observes the tides of history—it is now shaping them, said National Intelligence Organization (MİT) President İbrahim Kalın, in a strong message highlighting the nation’s progress in overcoming its decades-long struggle with terrorism.
Speaking at the closing session of the third annual “Ibn Khaldun Academy” organized by Ibn Haldun University under the theme “A Culture and Climate That Nurtures,” Kalın addressed students and alumni from various parts of Turkey. He emphasized the country’s evolving security landscape, asserting that Turkey is nearing the end of its 40-year battle with terrorism.

“The ‘Terror-Free Turkey’ process marks a significant step toward liberation from one of our country’s heaviest chains,” Kalın stated. “This is not just a security achievement, but a transformation that will carry Turkey into a stronger and more confident future.”
Kalın underlined that the “Terror-Free Turkey” initiative is unfolding step by step and represents a major national turning point. He pointed to growing stability and internal resilience as indicators of Turkey’s strengthening position on the global stage.
A Multifaceted Identity and Strategic Confidence
Highlighting the need for national self-confidence and strategic clarity, Kalın urged the youth to remember Turkey’s rich, multidimensional identity.
“Being ‘local and national’ does not mean isolating ourselves from the world,” he said. “Just as we should not abandon our roots and cultural heritage when engaging globally, we must also avoid retreating inward in the name of preservation.”
Kalın described the emphasis on being local and national as one of the most crucial steps Turkey has taken in recent years to stand on its own feet. He stressed that this mindset is key to building a strong, sovereign, and influential nation.
Toward a Bright Future
Looking ahead, the MİT chief expressed optimism for Turkey’s future, stating that the country’s ability to stay grounded while embracing change will be central to its success.

“If Turkey can remain outward-looking without losing its inner dynamism, its future will be bright,” Kalın said. “We are no longer a nation watching history unfold from the sidelines—we are actively shaping the course of history.”
He also touched upon Turkey’s active role in foreign policy, saying that in today’s geopolitical environment, it is crucial for Turkey to remain engaged and responsive to international developments.
Kalın concluded by reaffirming that a unified national vision—one that includes all segments of society—is essential for sustaining progress and achieving a truly “Terror-Free Turkey.”
