Rafale M Fighter Jets: $7.5 Billion India-France Deal
**India has formalized a significant agreement valued at approximately $7.5 billion with France for the acquisition of 26 Rafale M (Marine) fighter jets.** On April 28, the contract was finalized, marking a substantial enhancement of India’s naval aviation capabilities. The agreement follows successful negotiations concluded in March and features key figures such as Éric Trappier, the Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, during the signing ceremony.
This contract represents a landmark moment as India becomes the first nation outside France to operate the Rafale M aircraft, following the announcement made in July 2023. Dassault Aviation has confirmed that this procurement reflects the Indian government’s satisfaction with the aircraft’s capabilities and their intention to expand its operational use.
Comprehensive Deal Overview
The Indian Ministry of Defense has outlined that the $7.5 billion deal encompasses a wide range of provisions, including training, simulators, associated equipment, armaments, and performance-based logistics. Specifically, the acquisition includes 22 single-seat and 4 dual-seat Rafale fighter jets.
With this new procurement, the Indian Navy will phase out the existing MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB fighter jets currently operated by the INAS 300 “White Tigers” and INAS 303 “Black Panthers” squadrons, thereby enhancing their operational capabilities with the Rafale M.
