Ankara, Turkey – President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Presidential Complex in Ankara to discuss the escalating situation in Gaza and broader regional issues.
Erdoğan greeted Abbas at the entrance of the complex, with both leaders posing for photographs on the steps in front of Turkish and Palestinian flags before heading into a private meeting. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also attended the closed-door talks.
During the meeting, Erdoğan expressed concern over Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza, describing the recent ground assaults as a new and alarming phase of the violence. He emphasized that Israel’s actions threaten not only Palestine but also regional stability, citing the attack on Qatar as a demonstration of these wider risks.
The President highlighted that international awareness and criticism of Israel are growing and stressed Turkey’s commitment to keeping the Palestinian cause and Israeli aggression at the forefront of discussions on every global platform. Erdoğan reiterated Turkey’s primary goal: securing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ending the humanitarian crisis there. He also pledged that Turkey would continue to amplify Palestine’s voice at the United Nations General Assembly.
Erdoğan called on the Islamic world to unite against the threat posed by Israel and underscored the importance of achieving full political unity in Palestine to strengthen these collective efforts. He affirmed that Turkey will continue supporting such initiatives.
Following the meeting, President Erdoğan hosted a private dinner in honor of President Abbas at the Presidential Complex.
