President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation to discuss bilateral relations and pressing regional and global developments, according to a statement released by the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications.
During the call, President Erdoğan emphasized the importance of maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity and stability. He expressed concern over the recent clashes following the withdrawal of Syrian government forces from Suwayda, warning that such developments pose a threat to the broader region. Erdoğan underlined that Israel must respect Syria’s sovereignty in order to prevent further escalation.
Touching on the ongoing war in Ukraine, President Erdoğan highlighted the significance of resuming peace efforts. He noted that Türkiye remains committed to supporting diplomatic initiatives and reiterated Ankara’s willingness to host further rounds of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, should both parties agree on a suitable date.
President Erdoğan also reaffirmed Türkiye’s objective of restoring security and stability in Syria, as well as contributing to the country’s reconstruction and normalization process.
