MAM-T Missile: An Advanced Strike Solution for UAVs
**The MAM-T missile, developed with expertise accumulated from the well-established MAM family by ROKETSAN, stands as the largest variant in this array of precision munitions. It made its operational debut during the Akıncı TİHA’s first live-fire test on April 22, 2021. Designed specifically to complement the capabilities of the Akıncı, the MAM-T can also be integrated into a range of other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), light attack aircraft, and fighter jets, showcasing its versatility. Mass production of this advanced missile is anticipated to commence in the latter half of 2021.
Unlike its predecessors in the MAM series, the MAM-T features a redesigned wing structure that significantly increases its wing area. This enhanced design not only bolsters its performance but also extends its strike range, enabling the Akıncı and similar platforms to engage enemy systems, such as the Pantsir and Tor, from a safe distance while flying at higher altitudes compared to the Bayraktar TB-2. Utilizing the MAM-T offers a cost-effective solution for precision strikes, ensuring operational efficiency.
Improved Targeting Capabilities
In its Block-1 configuration, the MAM-T missile boasts advanced capabilities that enable it to effectively target both stationary and moving objects. This includes a diverse array of potential targets, such as armored and unarmored vehicles, buildings, and various surface installations. The missile’s guidance system utilizes a Semi-Active Laser Seeker Head (LAB), augmented by Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) technologies, ensuring high accuracy in engaging threats.
The MAM-T’s innovative guidance approach elevates its effectiveness on the battlefield, allowing for enhanced mission success rates. This versatile missile system is crafted not just for easy integration but for performance under diverse combat scenarios, potentially changing the dynamics of aerial warfare.
Technical Specifications of MAM-T
The MAM-T missile is engineered with remarkable specifications that contribute to its status as a formidable weapon in aerial engagements. Weighing in at 94 kg, it has a diameter of 230 mm and a length of 1.4 meters. Its warhead is specifically designed for fragmentation effects, maximizing its lethality upon impact.
Furthermore, the missile’s range capabilities are impressive, with operational effectiveness reaching beyond 30 km when launched from UAVs, and extending up to 80 km when deployed from fighter aircraft. This wide operational range underscores the strategic flexibility offered by the MAM-T across various platforms, asserting its prominence in modern military aviation.
