**South Korea has introduced the K2 Black Panther tank to Peru, highlighting its impressive capabilities at the upcoming SITDEF 2025 Defense Industry Fair.** According to a recent report from Defensa.com, this cutting-edge tank, along with the K-877 wheeled armored personnel carrier, arrived in Peru aboard the Morning Pride, a vessel registered in the Marshall Islands. Both military vehicles are set to be featured prominently during SITDEF, which will take place from April 24 to 27, showcasing innovations in defense and disaster prevention technologies.
The SITDEF 2025 aims to attract interest from various companies and countries involved in the defense sector across Latin America. Agreements Pave the Way for Military Collaboration
An agreement for the supply of K2 tanks has already been established, marking a significant milestone in military cooperation. In November of last year, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol signed new supply agreements with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum held in the capital of Peru. These agreements included a variety of defense systems spanning land, air, and naval sectors.
Among the key agreements is the procurement of next-generation main battle tanks and armored personnel carriers. This initiative aims to replace Peru’s aging fleet of Russian-made T-54 and T-55 tanks, ensuring the modernization of the country’s defense capabilities. Notably, the supply agreement between Hyundai Rotem, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, and the Fábrica de Armas y Municiones del Ejército (FAME SAC) has been finalized, yet the specific number of K2 tanks and K-877 APCs to be acquired remains undisclosed.
Joint Development and Technology Transfers
In addition to supplying military hardware, the agreement also encompasses joint development and technology transfer to further enhance Peru’s defense infrastructure. To facilitate this collaboration, a Technical Operational Working Committee (CETO) has been established, laying the groundwork for ongoing partnership between the two nations.
