HÜRJET Supersonic Training Jet Sets New Speed Record
**The HÜRJET has achieved a remarkable feat by reaching a speed of 1.2 Mach, marking another significant milestone in the realm of supersonic training jets. Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) proudly announced this accomplishment via their official Twitter account, stating, “We are advancing our success in the skies further every day!” This achievement reaffirms HÜRJET’s position at the forefront of supersonic jet training and showcases the rapid advancements in aviation technology from Turkey.
Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Defense Industry Agency, emphasized the importance of this milestone, highlighting that HÜRJET’s ability to reach supersonic speed represents not just an engineering breakthrough, but also a pivotal step for Turkey’s independent aviation aspirations. He stated, “In every mission, from training to attack, we are stronger in the skies with domestic and national solutions,” underlining the strategic significance of the HÜRJET in reinforcing Turkey’s defense capabilities.
Breaking the Sound Barrier
The HÜRJET’s journey into supersonic speeds was previously documented, particularly in the 139th edition of TUSAŞ’s GökVatan magazine published last February. The publication detailed how the HÜRJET successfully broke the sound barrier during a flight on October 21, 2024. At 09:45, the jet took off from Mürted Airfield, reaching an impressive speed of 1.01 Mach and remaining airborne for 38 minutes as it became the first domestic aircraft to achieve this historic feat.
During this groundbreaking flight, the HÜRJET not only demonstrated its capabilities but also successfully executed a controlled landing after breaking the sound barrier. This achievement has placed the aircraft in the spotlight, drawing attention to its potential within both training and operational contexts.
HÜRJET in Action
Continuing to capture international interest, the HÜRJET was recently showcased during a visit from General Francisco Braco Carbó, Commander of the Spanish Air Force, to TUSAŞ facilities. This visit highlighted the aircraft’s capabilities and reinforced its growing reputation on the global stage. During the event, General Carbó and General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu, Commander of the Turkish Air Force, had the opportunity to fly in tandem with two different HÜRJETs.
Post-flight, General Carbó praised the aircraft, stating, “This is a reliable aircraft ready to transition to a fifth-generation platform with good acceleration.” His remarks underscore the HÜRJET’s advanced design and performance characteristics, suggesting a promising future for its integration into next-generation air combat strategies.
