Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met today with Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, in Ankara to discuss key areas of cooperation between Turkey and the Council.
According to diplomatic sources, Minister Fidan underlined Turkey’s commitment to its long-standing partnership with the Council of Europe, of which it is a founding member. He expressed appreciation for Secretary General Berset’s inclusive and consensus-driven approach since taking office and voiced support for his recent initiatives aimed at strengthening dialogue within the organization.
One of the central themes of the meeting was the fight against racism in Europe. Minister Fidan emphasized the need for the Council of Europe to play a more assertive and proactive role in combating all forms of racism and discrimination, noting the rise of xenophobic rhetoric and actions across the continent.
The discussion reaffirmed both parties’ commitment to maintaining an open and constructive dialogue, with a shared goal of enhancing cooperation and addressing common challenges within the framework of the Council of Europe.
