Domestic Engines Turkey: Advancements in Defense Production
**Turkey’s commitment to advancing its domestic engine production for ground vehicles remains robust. During a recent press conference, Haluk Görgün, President of the Defense Industry Agency, discussed the nation’s export goals for 2024 and aspirations for 2025. He underscored the significance of domestic engine manufacturing, asserting that it is a top priority for all military platforms. To facilitate this, Görgün highlighted the establishment of control and support mechanisms by the agency, aimed at fostering collaboration between engine manufacturers and platform developers.**
Görgün elaborated on several key domestic engine projects currently in the pipeline. Notably, the TUNA engine, rated at 400 horsepower, the AZRA engine with 600 horsepower, and the powerful 1000 horsepower UTKU engine are all under development. Additionally, he provided updates on the BATU engine, specifically designed for the ALTAY tank, which is progressing steadily. He also pointed out that the insights gained from developing the BATU engine are being applied to the MAVİ BATU engine, intended for use in naval platforms.
BMC Delivers Turkey’s First Serial Production Domestic Engine-Equipped Vehicles
In a significant milestone for Turkey’s defense capabilities, BMC, a prominent military vehicle manufacturer, has begun delivering its first serial production tactical wheeled armored vehicles equipped with domestic engines. These vehicles were designed by Turkish engineers, under the guidance of the Defense Industry Agency, and are now being provided to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). The delivery ceremony took place at BMC’s facility in İzmir Pınarbaşı, with notable attendees such as Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün and Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of BMC’s Board.
During the ceremony, Görgün announced that a total of 100 armored vehicles fitted with domestic engines have been incorporated into the TSK’s inventory. This includes 50 VURAN vehicles designated for the Land Forces Command, 40 VURAN vehicles allocated to the Gendarmerie General Command, and 10 KİRPİ vehicles also intended for the Land Forces Command. These deliveries mark a significant step forward in Turkey’s defense production capabilities, showcasing the successful implementation of domestic technology in military applications.
