Significant Progress in Testing and Development

On March 15, the Bayraktar KIZILELMA successfully undertook its Aerodynamic System Identification Test. The production prototype, designated TC-OZB3, launched from the AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu utilizing an afterburner, completing all planned aerodynamic activities during the flight.

Developments throughout the KIZILELMA project have incorporated lessons learned from earlier prototypes, resulting in numerous enhancements in both structure and avionics. The aircraft’s new afterburning engine allows it to achieve speeds nearing that of sound while improving its maneuverability at higher velocities.

A New Era in Aviation Achievements

The Bayraktar KIZILELMA program, which commenced in 2021, was fully financed with domestic investment provided by Baykar. The production prototype was unveiled on November 14, 2022, and completed its first test flight a month later, on December 14, 2022, marking a rapid achievement in aviation history.

During TEKNOFEST 2023, the KIZILELMA achieved groundbreaking flights, participating in formation displays alongside the Bayraktar AKINCI UAV and showcasing its capabilities in a group flight over Istanbul with the Turkish Stars, which includes both F-16 and F-5 aircraft. These flights highlight a pivotal moment in aviation history and set the stage for future developments in aerial combat.

Baykar’s Export Success and Global Impact

Baykar has consistently funded all its projects independently and has derived 83% of its revenue from exports since it started its UAV R&D efforts in 2003. In 2023 alone, the company reported $1.8 billion in exports, ranking it among Turkey’s top ten export firms across all sectors.

In 2024, Baykar continued its success, achieving the same export figures and ensuring that 90% of its income was generated through international sales. Recognized with the Export Champions Award, Baykar emerged as the leader in the defense and aviation sector’s exports from 2021 to 2023. With expectations to account for a substantial portion of the sector’s exports in 2024, Baykar envisions transforming Turkey into a powerhouse in the global drone export market.

Future Outlook for Baykar and KIZILELMA

With export agreements spanning 36 countries, including significant sales for the Bayraktar TB2 and Bayraktar AKINCI UAVs, Baykar has established itself as a crucial player in the global market. As the largest UAV manufacturer, the company’s development of the KIZILELMA marks a strategic advancement in Turkey’s defense capabilities.

The continued progress of the Bayraktar KIZILELMA program not only signifies technological advancements but also reflects Turkey’s growing impact on the international defense landscape. As testing continues and production increases, the KIZILELMA is set to redefine unmanned combat operations.
