ALTAY Tanks Delivery Schedule Announced by Haluk Görgün
**In a significant announcement, Haluk Görgün, the President of the Defense Industry, revealed the delivery schedule for the ALTAY tanks, set to bolster Turkey’s military capabilities.** According to Görgün, the timeline includes the delivery of 3 ALTAY T1 tanks in 2025, followed by 11 units in 2026, 41 units in 2027, and 30 units in 2028. This phased delivery approach aims to ensure a steady integration of advanced armor technology into the Turkish Armed Forces.
Additionally, Görgün highlighted that beyond the initial deliveries, an impressive total of 165 ALTAY tanks will follow in subsequent years, all configured in the upgraded T2 specification. The T2 configuration promises enhanced features, including an advanced armor system, isolated hull ammunition setup, and laser-guided cannon capabilities, ensuring that the ALTAY remains at the forefront of modern armored warfare.
Details of the BMC Facility in Ankara
In conjunction with the delivery announcement, Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün also provided insights into the BMC Ankara Armored Vehicle Production Facility, which will serve as the manufacturing hub for the ALTAY tanks. Covering an extensive area of 63,000 square meters, the facility is designed to optimize production efficiency, with 50,000 square meters allocated specifically for ALTAY tank production and an additional 13,000 square meters for ALTUĞ 8×8 vehicle manufacturing.
Once fully operational, the facility is expected to produce 8 ALTAY tanks and 10 ALTUĞ 8×8 armored vehicles each month. This initiative is projected to generate employment for over 1,500 personnel, both white-collar and blue-collar, reflecting the growing demand for skilled workers in Turkey’s defense sector.
Advanced Testing and Development Capabilities
The BMC facility is not just about assembly; it is equipped with state-of-the-art testing tracks and various engineering development profiles. These features are crucial for conducting qualification tests and assessing the operational lifespan of the newly developed wheeled and tracked vehicles under realistic conditions they may face throughout their lifecycle.
Moreover, the facility will house a dedicated test workshop for maintaining testing equipment, alongside a 290,000 square meter test track. This comprehensive setup underscores Turkey’s commitment to ensuring that its military vehicles meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
Accelerating Production of the ALTAY Power Pack
In addition to the tank deliveries and facility updates, the production of the ALTAY tank’s power pack is reported to be progressing rapidly. This critical component is essential for the operational effectiveness of the ALTAY tanks, which are designed to perform under a variety of combat scenarios.
The swift advancement in the power pack production reflects the broader strategy of the Turkish defense industry to enhance self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on foreign technology, ultimately aiming to bolster national security.
