Acquisition of Bayraktar TB2 Drones

In a significant move, Bosnia and Herzegovina has reached an agreement to purchase six Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey, expected to be delivered in 2025. Helez clarified that while they initially sought to facilitate the delivery through NATO, they are prepared to proceed with direct delivery if necessary. He shared logistical plans, noting two potential deployment sites for the drones.

To effectively operate the Bayraktar TB2s, upgrades to infrastructure are required. Helez stated that the runway at Rajlovac Barracks needs to be extended to a length of 1200 meters to accommodate the drones. The first two units are set to arrive, followed by an additional four, with current training for the armed forces taking place in Turkey to ensure operational readiness.

Future Collaborations and Helicopter Acquisitions

Helez also revealed plans for acquiring helicopters from Turkey, aimed at enhancing firefighting capabilities. He emphasized the steady progress being made in the defense sector, stating that collaborations with Turkey are set to continue and expand. This strategic partnership signifies a commitment to bolstering Bosnia and Herzegovina’s defense capabilities.

As Bosnia and Herzegovina moves forward with its defense modernization efforts, the acquisition of advanced equipment from the Turkish defense industry marks a pivotal step. With a clear vision and strategic planning, the nation aims to strengthen its military infrastructure and operational effectiveness in the coming years.
