Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has issued a statement welcoming the recent summit held in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, describing the talks as a significant step toward ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.

In a message shared on his social media account, Erdoğan emphasized that the high-level dialogue has the potential to breathe new momentum into international efforts to halt the conflict, which has devastated Ukraine for over two years.

“The meetings held in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin have given a new impetus to the search for ending the Russia-Ukraine war,” Erdoğan wrote. “We welcome the Alaska Summit and sincerely hope that this new process will lay the foundations for a lasting peace with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Turkey stands ready to contribute in every way to the establishment of peace.”

The Alaska Summit marks the latest attempt to bring Washington and Moscow closer to a negotiated framework that could pave the way for a ceasefire and eventual peace settlement. While details of the discussions have not been fully disclosed, both sides reportedly exchanged views on de-escalation measures, humanitarian corridors, and the prospects of future multilateral talks.

Erdoğan’s remarks underscore Ankara’s ongoing efforts to position itself as a mediator in the conflict. Since the outbreak of the war in February 2022, Turkey has sought to balance its strategic relations with both NATO allies and Russia, hosting previous rounds of negotiations and facilitating critical agreements such as the Black Sea grain corridor.

Analysts note that Erdoğan’s public endorsement of the Alaska Summit reflects Turkey’s broader foreign policy objective: to maintain relevance in the evolving security architecture of Eurasia while actively championing diplomatic pathways to peace.

As the international community closely watches the outcomes of the Trump-Putin dialogue, Erdoğan’s call for Zelensky’s inclusion signals that any lasting resolution must be built on the principle of Ukrainian sovereignty and direct involvement of Kyiv in the negotiation process.

Whether the Alaska Summit becomes a genuine turning point or another fleeting attempt at dialogue remains to be seen. Yet Turkey’s reaffirmed readiness to play an active role suggests that Ankara will remain a key stakeholder in the complex and fragile search for peace in Ukraine.
