EL ALAMEIN – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Saturday as part of his official visit to Egypt, continuing an intense round of diplomacy focused on the Palestinian issue and regional stability.

The meeting, held in the coastal city of El Alamein, came as Ankara and Cairo work to strengthen bilateral ties and coordinate their positions on pressing regional matters.

Ongoing High-Level Contacts
Fidan’s trip to Egypt follows a series of high-level engagements between the two countries. He last visited Cairo on March 23, 2025, to attend the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) – Arab League Contact Group meeting on Gaza. Earlier, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry visited Türkiye on February 4, 2025, for bilateral talks.

The two top diplomats also met in Istanbul on June 20–21, 2025, during the 51st Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. These frequent exchanges reflect the growing political momentum in Türkiye–Egypt relations after years of limited contact.

Agenda: Bilateral and Regional Cooperation

According to diplomatic sources, Fidan’s discussions in Egypt will focus on both bilateral issues and major regional developments. The talks are expected to include concrete steps to enhance the two countries’ multidimensional cooperation, particularly in trade and economic partnerships.

The ministers will also exchange views on regional crises, with a strong emphasis on the situation in Gaza. Fidan is expected to stress that Israel’s recent actions—targeting the two-state solution and pursuing annexation of Gaza—are the biggest obstacles to regional peace and stability.

Joint Efforts on Gaza Crisis
In meetings in Cairo, Fidan will explore possible joint initiatives with Egypt to end what Türkiye describes as the “genocide” in Gaza. He is also expected to brief Egyptian officials on the outcomes of last week’s international conference on Palestine in New York, in which Türkiye participated.

Beyond Gaza, the agenda will include discussions on Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and broader challenges in North and East Africa as well as the Sahel region. Ankara and Cairo are expected to evaluate how they can jointly contribute to regional peace and security.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations
While regional diplomacy dominates the visit, Fidan’s program also includes advancing Türkiye–Egypt relations in areas such as trade, investment, and cultural exchange. Both sides have signaled readiness to translate recent political rapprochement into concrete projects and long-term cooperation frameworks.

The visit underscores the ongoing normalization and strategic alignment between two of the region’s most influential states, both of which are key players in efforts to stabilize the Middle East and North Africa.
