Ankara – July 16, 2025 — The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) has approved an official memorandum strongly condemning Israel’s recent airstrikes in Syria, including attacks on the capital Damascus. The motion, signed by Speaker of Parliament Numan Kurtulmuş, was passed in the General Assembly and reflects Turkey’s growing concerns over what it calls Israel’s “aggressive and lawless actions” in the region.
In the text of the memorandum, the Turkish Parliament asserts that Israel’s disregard for international law has once again manifested itself—this time in Syria. It accuses the Israeli government of following a comprehensive strategy of regional destabilization, citing its ongoing military actions in Gaza, the occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon, and Iran.
“The genocide taking place in Gaza and the attacks on Lebanon and Iran are now being followed by direct assaults on the Syrian capital. These developments make clear that the Israeli administration is deliberately pursuing a strategy that threatens regional peace in its entirety,” the memorandum states.
The memorandum goes on to argue that Israel’s military strikes represent a blatant violation of Syria’s territorial integrity and are being used as a diversionary tactic to shift international attention away from its alleged crimes against the Palestinian people.
“Israel is openly violating the sovereignty of Syria while trying to distract global opinion from its ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people,” it reads.
The Turkish Parliament expresses concern over what it calls the “destabilizing nature” of Israel’s actions in Syria and the wider region. It criticizes the international community for its “incomprehensible silence and inaction,” claiming that such passivity only emboldens Israel’s “reckless aggression.”
“Unless the world takes a strong stand against these attacks, the prospects for peace, security, and stability—both in the region and globally—will continue to deteriorate,” the statement warns.
In unequivocal terms, the Turkish Parliament condemns the Israeli strikes in Syria, especially those targeting Damascus, and reaffirms its solidarity with the Syrian people.
“We strongly condemn Israel’s vile attacks on Syria, especially those targeting Damascus. We reaffirm our support for the Syrian people, who have endured immense suffering for years. We uphold Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and we stand firmly against all acts that threaten the peace and security of the Syrian nation,” the document states.
The memorandum also stresses that lasting peace and stability in Syria will directly contribute to regional stability, while further escalation will only serve the interests of those who profit from bloodshed—specifically naming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.
“Any deterioration in the situation will only benefit Netanyahu and his circle, who thrive on conflict and destruction,” it declares.
Concluding the statement, the Turkish Parliament calls on the international community to take consistent, effective, and decisive measures to stop Israel’s actions, which it says threaten regional and global peace.
“We invite the international community to raise its voice against Israel’s aggression, which deepens regional crises and endangers world peace,” the memorandum urges.
The approved text will be published in the Official Gazette, following the vote by the General Assembly.
