ADA-Class Corvettes: Croatia’s Naval Future at ASDA Fair
**Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Ivan Anušić, recently explored advanced military maritime solutions at the ASDA Fair in Croatia’s capital, Zagreb.** While visiting the STM stand, he received insights into the firm’s capabilities and projects, particularly emphasizing the ADA-class corvettes. Accompanied by STM’s General Manager, Özgür Güleryüz, Anušić examined a model of the ADA-class corvette, a ship type that the Croatian Navy critically needs as it seeks to bolster its maritime defense capabilities.
The urgency for corvette procurement has led the Croatian Navy to engage in various negotiations, with STM potentially emerging as a key supplier. Beyond their existing supply to the Turkish Navy, STM is also building a global presence, evidenced by export agreements for logistical and combat vessels with countries such as Portugal, Ukraine, Malaysia, and Pakistan. These developments position STM as a vital player in enhancing Croatia’s naval strength.
STM’s Participation in ASDA 2025
Looking ahead, STM is set to participate in the Adriatic Defense and Aerospace Fair 2025 (ASDA-2025), scheduled from April 8 to 10, 2025, in Zagreb. During this event, they will unveil the first vessel from the MILGEM İSTİF Class project, marking Turkey’s first national frigate, the TCG ISTANBUL (F-515), which STM successfully delivered to the Turkish Navy. The exhibition will also spotlight the ADA-class corvette project, showcasing the four vessels already delivered to Turkey.
In addition to the corvettes, STM will present Turkey’s first national submarine design for special operations, the STM500, alongside their Unmanned Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (UAV), STM NETA. This array of innovations underlines STM’s commitment to enhancing maritime capabilities through advanced technology and strategic partnerships.
Innovations in Tactical Mini UAVs
STM continues to lead in developing pioneering systems for tactical mini UAVs. Among its notable offerings is Turkey’s first national combat UAV, the KARGU, which is equipped for anti-personnel engagement and is capable of deploying armor-piercing munitions. This UAV has successfully been exported to more than ten countries across three continents, highlighting Turkey’s growing influence in UAV technology.
In addition to KARGU, STM will introduce the TOGAN reconnaissance UAV, actively used by the Turkish Armed Forces in counter-terrorism operations, along with the BOYGA UAV, designed specifically for munition deployment. By showcasing these systems at the upcoming fair, STM aims to reinforce its position within the Adriatic region’s defense landscape.
The Blue Homeland Strategy
Moreover, STM’s presence at the ASDA Fair not only signifies its technological advancements but also its commitment to ensuring maritime security in the Adriatic. The concept of the ‘Blue Homeland’ represents Turkey’s strategic approach to protect its sea rights, and STM is at the forefront of this initiative. Their innovative vessels and UAV technologies contribute significantly to the defense capabilities within the region.
The company’s participation in such defense expos underlines its proactive role in addressing regional security challenges while strengthening partnerships with neighboring naval forces. This commitment is crucial as Croatia seeks to modernize its fleet, ensuring that its naval operations are equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
