TYPE 55 SAT Boats Begin Duties for Iraqi Defense Forces
**The TYPE 55 SAT boats crafted in collaboration between ENM KOREA and ARES Shipyard have officially commenced their operational duties under the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.** This significant milestone marks the moment when all three boats, specifically constructed for Iraqi defense needs, are now actively deployed in service.
The first welding ceremony for these innovative vessels took place at ARES Shipyard’s facilities in Antalya, attended by representatives from both nations. This ceremony symbolized the culmination of a meticulous 20-month production process, closely monitored by directors and officials from both ENM KOREA and the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.
Notably, the TYPE 55 SAT boats feature an aluminum hull, recognized for its durability at sea, and boast impressive speeds of up to 30 knots. Each boat is capable of transporting a specialized operations team of up to 12 members, complete with their necessary equipment and gear, to remote operational zones.
Equipped with the latest remote-controlled weapon systems, these vessels provide ballistic protection against close-range threats, thereby distinguishing themselves within their category. Furthermore, they are adept at executing asymmetric warfare, maritime control missions, and joint operations, having recently begun patrol activities in the UM Qaser region of Iraq.
Oğuzhan Pehlivanlı, the General Manager of ARES Shipyard, expressed immense pride in this historic achievement, noting that it represents Turkey’s first export of military vessels to Iraq. He emphasized, “This project showcases ARES Shipyard’s 19 years of engineering excellence and innovation in shipbuilding. The TYPE 55 SAT boats stand out for their advanced technology and exceptional capabilities, placing them at the forefront of their class.”
As the project progresses, the fast attack boats designed for Iraq are now fully prepared for delivery, marking a significant advancement in bilateral defense cooperation between Turkey and Iraq.
