Turkish Defense Industry: Leading Global Exports in 2024
**At the Global Strategies Conference in Defense and Aviation Industry, Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, Chairman of the Defense Industry, delivered an insightful opening speech highlighting Turkey’s significant advancements in the defense sector. He emphasized that Turkey is currently the eleventh largest defense industry exporter in the world, showcasing the effectiveness of domestic capabilities in meeting the needs of national security units. Through a wide range of project activities, from design to serial production, and research and development to industrialization, the Turkish defense industry is strategically addressing contemporary battlefield requirements while preparing for future challenges.**
Görgün pointed out that the defense sector has become a crucial contributor to the national economy, housing over 500 companies. He revealed that there are currently more than 1,100 active projects, boasting an impressive localization rate of 80% and a cumulative project volume exceeding 100 billion dollars. In 2024, Turkey’s Defense Industry Presidency has already finalized 90 projects and intends to modernize its military capabilities through the initiation of 170 new projects, which are backed by a budget surpassing 7 billion dollars.
